We say

No surprise that the Lake District is full of farm shops (it is full of farms, after all). But there isn’t another where the tea room looks down onto the milking parlour and the shop stalls are housed in the ancient byres. You’d come just for the food – farm-fresh veg to air-dried Cumbrian ham, farm cheese to organic bread – but there’s also a cracking collection of arts, crafts, antiques, gifts and toys, all beautifully displayed. And if you want to see the cows miked while enjoying a cuppa and a bite to eat, come between 3.30pm and 5pm.

A real gem ★★★★★

A real gem that's handy if you are travelling north or south and looking for an interesting stop in the South Lakes. It has recently been publicised in many of the national Top Farm Shop lists and has lots of accolades for the tea room too. The farm shop is eclectic, with a well stocked cheese counter, some of which comes from the farm's herd, and a bakery section with cakes made on site and loads of artisan bread from local bakeries. The downstairs shopping area used to be a shippon and is packed with lots of interesting bits for home and garden, and then the upstairs mezzanine has gifts, toys and clothing ranges that are a pleasingly unexpected find in a farm shop - Seasalt and Masai to name two. The tea room itself allows you to watch the cows being milked and has plenty of choice for breakfast, light lunches, coffee stops and afternoon tea. Well worth a visit and very handy for the motorway.
