Cairngorm Mountain Railway

The most famous mountain in the Cairngorms National Park is, of course, Cairngorm itself. You can hike up to the visitor centre and restaurant from the car park below, but a mountain railway now zips up too, opening up breathtaking views as you go. This is a serious mountain range that only the experienced and well-equipped should consider hiking in, but the beauty of the mountain railway is that everyone can have a taste of what it feels like to be so high up a Scottish mountain. Disabled access is excellent, and in winter the railway is packed with skiers and snowboarders heading off on the myriad runs and chair lifts that break off at the top station.
