A country house hotel with a cool, boutique feel.

Milsoms Kesgrave Hall

Hall Road Kesgrave Ipswich Suffolk IP5 2PU 01473 333 741

We say

Situated on the eastern edge of Ipswich, this rather grand building used to be a school and was also once owned by the Tolly Cobbold local brewing dynasty, but nowadays it's the Ipswich location of the excellent East Anglian boutique hotel group Milsoms, which is one of our favourite local hotel chains.

Kesgrave Hall is a boutique country house hotel, sitting in expansive grounds and looking a much larger affair than it really is, with just 23 rooms, around half of which are in the main house while the rest are in the former headmaster’s quarters and various outbuildings. In tune with the rest of the Milsoms group, the rooms are sumptuous but not old-fashioned, kitted out with sound systems, flatscreen TVs with satellite connections and free wifi and complimentary soft drinks and snacks. Some have freestanding baths.

Downstairs there's a bar and lounge that are relaxed rather than stuffy, and the restaurant is deliberately acessible, staying open all day and featuring stripped pine tables, an open kitchen and a quirky way of ordering – just write what you want on the pad provided.
