Station Hotel
Station Rd Framlingham IP13 9EE
It doesn't look all that from the outside, but this old station has been run as a pub since the 1950s and nowadays is a real foodie haven, with a stripped-down interior that caters for local drinkers and diners alike. Its blackboard is newly covered with goodies each day and appears scrawled with the same enthusiasm they give to sourcing and cooking the best local produce in a multitude of ways. There's a slightly simpler (and cheaper) lunch menu which features great homemade soup, Irish stew, kedgeree, mussels, burgers, and a less rustic and slightly more expensive evening menu, featuring around 8 starts and mains that encompass local fish and seafood (from Orford), local lamb, pork and game – think venison fillets, lamp rump, pork belly, sea bass, oysters, grilled sardines. The food is great, hearty for the most part, yet cooked with skill and beautifully presented, and the service is brilliant too. Round it off with an excellent selection of ales from the Earl Soham brewery, and you almost have the perfect gastro pub – which of course is nothing more than the appreciative locals of Framlingham deserve.
