You can’t help but think ‘British Museum’ as you walk up the steps to this museum of art and archaeology, and in many places inside the vibe continues. It’s not great for kids bar the occasional hands-on exhibit – send them down the road to the Pitt Rivers and the Natural History Museum – but it guides an interested adult through the history of civilisation with aplomb. It’s been recently transformed inside, and the display on the rebuild gets a particular thumbs-up. Don’t miss the rooftop restaurant either.
