Goths and fang fans descend upon Whitby for its well-known Dracula connections – Bram Stoker wrote and set the original novel here, and there are plenty of places of pilgrimage on the Dracula Trail through town. For a kitsch thrill that will give nervous kids the willies, the harbourside Dracula Experience serves up voluptuous vamps and buckets of blood. Or at least it does when the "live actor" (surely he shouldn't be, well, live...) is in residence, which is basically in school holidays. At other times, the entry fee is reduced – but so are the scares.
