All the best shops and restaurants in Hackney now stock sourdough bread from the E5 Bakehouse, a great little operation tucked under a railway arch near London Fields. There’s a small café that serves – as you would expect – delicious sandwiches made using their own bread, as well as a range of cakes also made on site. Beyond the café area is the bakery itself, where you can see the dough being kneaded and baked. Any bread not used in the café is then transported to their clients by bicycle, making this a low carbon business, as well as a buzzy and fun one. Contact them to find out about bread-making courses.
