North Promenade Blackpool FY1 2HB 01253 623 971
Long the favourite of politicians and celebs down the years, the four-star Imperial still has a certain cachet. It's a grand Victorian pile of the kind that used to dominate the town, and while other hotels might be more boutiquey and contemporary these days, there's an old-fashioned reassurance to the place that still appeals, with its uniformed staff, ornate interior and solid furnishings. There's nothing about the rooms to frighten the horses, and for any kind of style you'll have to splash out extra for those deemed "premium" or "deluxe" – as you will if you want a sea view. Don't miss the No.10 Bar while you're there, another period-piece that's entirely at one with the general old-time tenor of the place. There is an indoor pool, health club and spa that brings facilities a bit more up to date.
