Peace and quiet, beach-combing and walks, with a lovely village pub nearby.

This peaceful place at the southern tip of the Isle of Wight seems to have it all…a warm micro climate, easy access to the 500 miles of footpaths on the island, views of the sea and some great crab and seafood available nearby. The Barn and the Stable are in the grounds of a Grade II listed farmhouse and have been beautifully restored and decorated. Sleeping four and six people respectively, both holiday cottages are light and airy and have all the comforts you would expect from a luxury conversion: fully-equipped kitchens, Freesat TV, DVD, WiFi, wood-burning stoves and so on. A major attraction is their secluded south facing gardens which have been lovingly laid out with flowers and shrubs which thrive in the micro climate of the Undercliff. The Barn has a double bedroom with south-facing sea views and a twin room also with views to the sea. The Stable has three bedrooms, two twins served by the main bathroom with a bath/shower and a master bedroom with exposed stone walls and an en suite bathroom with a walk in shower. Just a few minutes away is the iconic St Catherine's Lighthouse and the 16th century Buddle Inn close by, so no need to book a taxi if you fancy a pint after a hard day’s hiking or beachcombing!
Buddle Place was once a farm belonging to nearby Windcliff Manor. The original Barn and Stable now offer luxurious holiday accommodation in this sunny spot on the southern tip of the island facing France. The style is contemporary yet cosy, with original art on the walls and a mix of antique and modern furniture throughout. There are some spectacular walks starting from here, along the coast east or west or into the centre of the island above the village with views across the channel and back to the mainland.
Our Favourite Spot
Our favourite room in the Stable has to be the living room, enjoying the view to the sea in the summer and cosying up to the wood burning stove during winter. The Barn bedrooms with their sea views are another favourite and the landing linking these rooms has its own view down onto the living room with its double height ceiling.
The local area
The Isle of Wight definitely enjoys a better climate and slower pace of life than the mainland and here at the far south of the island you feel it the most. The Undercliff has milder weather than the rest of the country, frosts and snow are extremely rare and tender plants are happy outside in most winters. Walking and cycling all across the island is extremely popular for good reason and with 110 miles of coastline there are beaches for all activities ( including fossil hunting ).
Best local places to eat and drink
The Isle of Wight is blessed with some great local produce and there are many restaurants and pubs that take advantage of this. One of our favourites is The Taverners pub in nearby Godshill where food miles are sometimes are reduced to food yards with so much being grown and reared locally. Other regulars for us are The Bistro in Ventnor, The Little Gloster in Gurnard and for a special treat high tea at the Royal Hotel also in Ventnor. If eating right on the beach appeals during the summer then The Crab Shed at Steephill Cove is a must ( try the crab pasties ) or try The Hut at Colwell Bay near Freshwater on the west side of the island.
Why stay with us?
