Beach Road, Burton Bradstock Dorset DT6 4R 01308 897 070
The freshest fish and the best sea views can be found at this homely beach hut-cum-seafood restaurant on lovely Burton Bradstock beach. You can sit outside on the terrace all year round, or under canvas awnings if the weather’s bad, and enjoy a huge platter of seafood, including lobster, crab, langoustines and scallops, all caught in the very waters in front of you; or choose a fish from the counter – Lyme Bay lemon sole, perhaps – and have it simply grilled with olive oil and sea salt.
This is one of my favourite brunch spots by the sea. Burton Bradstock has a gorgeous beach, and this café makes the most of the views by keeping it simple. The café is mostly under an awning, or outside on the patio. It’s always been busy when I’ve been there, usually you have to lurk until a table is free. You may then have to stand in a long queue to order at the till and collect your own drinks. But it’s worth it. This place has charm. Go for the Breakfast Club. Take your own newspapers. Don’t forget your sunglasses! Do what we did last August bank holiday and go for a refreshing swim first! Enjoy the most delicious breakfast. Parking available in the National Trust car park by the café. Go. But don’t tell too many people, or you won’t get a table!
