A beautifully located boutique hotel where nothing is a problem.
Gulworthy Tavistock Devon PL19 8JD 01822 832 528
Almost bang on the Devon-Cornwall border, high above the Tamar Valley, the Horn of Plenty looks like the house of your richest friend, the sort of place you wish you lived in but sadly can't afford. Maybe that's the point of hotels giving you the chance to stay in the nineteenth-century former crib of a local mine-owner whose basic elegance and sublime location led it to being converted into a restaurant in the 1960s, when it was awarded the UK's first ever Michelin star. It's been a hotel for thirty years, and we're glad to say that its 16 guest rooms have more than kept pace with the times – they are spacious and well-equipped, with high-quality beds, modern bathrooms all the luxuries you would expect, and all make the most of the hotel's stunning views. Some are located in the main house and are more traditional in decor, while others, in a converted coach house, are contemporary and boutique and have small balconies overlooking the valley. Some are dog-friendly. The food too is right up-to-date, and the other main attraction at the Horn of Plenty. Expect admirably short and perfectly formed lunch and dinner menus that are full of original, well-priced and delicious choices (2–3-course lunch £19.50–£24.50, 3-course dinner £49). Most crucially though, the service and attention to detail throughout the hotel is impeccable, giving you that all-important feeling that nothing is a problem. Not for nothing was it deemed Devon's small hotel of the year in 2014.
We're an independently owned 4 Star Hotel with 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. We were awarded "National Small Hotel of the Year, Silver Award" in the 2015 Visit England awards, and "Devon Small Hotel of the Year" in the 2014/15 Devon Tourism Awards.
Dogs are welcome in some of our garden rooms. They'll love wandering the gardens, and the direct access onto 25km of Tamar Trails. Dartmoor is just a 10 minute drive.
The local area
We're just 10 minutes' from Dartmoor, and less than 20 minutes from Cotehele, The Garden House and Buckland Abbey. An hour's drive will take you to both North and South Devon coasts, with stunning beaches and the wonderful South West Coastal Path.
Why stay with us?
We've 6 acres of stunning gardens to wander, log fires in winter and comfy chairs in which to curl up and enjoy a good book. In summer, sip a G&T on our lovely patio and enjoy stunning views with magical sunsets. If you fancy a bit of pampering, you can book a massage, a facial, a manicure/pedicure with one of our highly trained therapists.
