Crosthwaite Lyth Valley LA8 8HR 01539 568 237
The very model of an updated country inn – you may never want to leave your delightful room and, if you do, it will only be to toddle downstairs for scrumptious meals in the gastro-bar and restaurant . There are gentle colour tones throughout in nine warm rooms that feature country cottage furniture and chic fabrics; some have four-posters made from reclaimed elm and free-standing clawfoot tubs while one, Noble, sits under oak eaves and takes up the whole top floor. Outside is the rural parish church and the glorious rolling countryside of the Lyth Valley, while you’re just a short drive from Windermere.
When Nanny and Grandad first had our daughter for a sleepover this where my wife and I went for some lovely us time to celebrate our anniversary. The Punchbowl is set in a lovely rural location, in a tiny little village that is well worth getting off the main roads for.
On arrival we were shown to our very comfortable room, with a massive bed, and gorgeous bathroom. We were told that our complimentary afternoon te would be served in the bar - proper tea, with traditional scones, with clotted cream and jam.
We then went back to the room, made full use of the large freestanding bath and got ready for dinner. The Punchbowl restaurant is fabulous, we had wonderful meal with cracking local bread and other produce. Service was brilliant throughout.
Oh and it was national Pub of the Year 2009.
Couldn't recommend it more highly to be honest!
