The Queens Hotel

2 High Street St Ives Cornwall TR26 1RR 01736 796 468

We say

While there’s plenty of trendy restaurants in St Ives and it’s fast becoming a foodie Mecca for West Cornwall, most of the pubs in town are simply made for drinking. So it's a relief to find a down-to-earth pub that serves top quality, locally-sourced grub. Since new owners took over The Queens Hotel in 2011, they've excelled in their mission to serve fresh, seasonal food, without whacking restaurant prices on the dishes. The menu is chalked daily on the board so it's basically made up of what comes in from the local fishermen and farmers. Think Boxeater beef, seafood bisque and crispy pork belly, topped off with the likes of rhubarb and ginger crumble served with Cornish clotted cream. The calibre of the food might suggest this place is a restaurant, but with its rustic decor and relaxed bar, this is most definitely a pub. And unlike some of the stuffier dining rooms in town, dogs and children are welcome too.

A very cool gastropub experience! ★★★★★

The Queens Hotel is a very cool gastropub experience, a great place to eat, drink and be merry. The food is wonderful – great choices, locally sourced, cooked to perfection, the list could go on and on. I had the best seafood risotto I have ever tasted, containing tiger prawns, cuttlefish and crab with saffron. Sunday lunch was another winner and great value, offering two courses for a tenner. Better than I could cook at home and that is saying something! The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The chef is worthy of Michelin star status!
