Fistral Surf Diner
19 Cliff Road Newquay Cornwall TR7 2NE
Downstairs, the Fistral Surf Co looks like just another surf shop in the endless line-up along the streets of Newquay. But upstairs you’ll be surprised to find a brand new American-style diner decked out with a jukebox, booths, retro décor and a sea-view terrace overlooking Newquay Bay. The fusion of the surfy lifestyle and fat portions of American food is fitting for the town and its crowds of hungry surfers. As well as waffles, pancakes and bagels on the breakfast menu, there’s a ‘Dawn Patrol Burger’ stacked with sausage meat, a free-range egg, streaky bacon and Cornish yarg cheese. The ambience is sociable and stylish, attracting families and friends to tuck into share platters of whitebait, fiery chicken and nachos, served alongside classic steaks and burgers. There’s a Little Dudes menu, but if you’re passing with kids in tow you might just want to pop in and enjoy the view while they tuck into milkshakes, Knickerbocker Glories or Banana Splits. Not just a restaurant, the Fistral Surf Diner is turning into a popular spot for sundowners and evening beers, being a more relaxed option (the sort of place you get Pimms served in teapots) than some of Newquay’s more rowdy nightspots.
