Halzephron House

Gunwalloe Cornwall TR12 7QD 07899925816

We say

Perched atop a headland in a relatively untouched stretch of the Cornwall coast, at the top left corner of The Lizard peninsula, Halzephron House enjoys a blessed location, surrounded by National Trust-owned land and with sea views that seem to pan out almost infinitely in all directions from its clifftop perch overlooking Mount’s Bay. The Southwest Coast Path runs around the edge of the gardens to the fenced-off cliff-edge, and there's an award-winning gastropub a five-minute walk away. Not only that, for fans of the TV series there are not one but two Poldark locations nearby – Dollar Cove and Doctor Enys’ house, both a ten-minute walk away.  There’s a walled garden with palm trees, a ‘secret garden’ lots of space for games, and, yes, a trampoline!

Halzephron House also encompasses several different types of accommodation. It's in part a B&B, with one lovely en-suite bedroom – the 'Tower Suite' – that makes the most of the sea views; but it also has a number of self-catering options dotted around the grounds: a cottage facing west which can comfortably sleep six people, a cosy cabin for two that looks out over Halzephron Cove just below, and the well-named Observatory, which as you might expect enjoys perhaps the most panoramic sea views and also sleeps two. The cottage's stylish interior featured in Country Living magazine a few years ago and it has a large living room with ocean views, a kitchen/diner, two bathrooms and three bedrooms –  a downstairs double and bunk-bedded room and a galleried upstairs twin. The Cabin is a romantic hideaway for two, with its own garden and a small double bedroom, a kitchenette, a sitting room with wood-burner (logs provided) and a bathroom with a double-ended bath – and it's dog-friendly. As for the Observatory, it has views of the sea from every room, and is right on the coastal path; it has a large lawned garden with its own wildflower meadow, a fire-pit and outdoor cooking area. The interior has been completely refurbished and includes a wet room, a wood-panelled bedroom, a cosy living room with a wood-burner and a small kitchen/diner. As a walking holiday cottage, it can't really be beat, since you can set off right from the front door.

Finally there's a relaxation and wellness strand to Halzephron House, with individual yoga sessions and treatments from reflexology to holistic massage available on request; they also host regular weddings; plus there all sorts of activities available on your doorstep, from surfing to sea-fishing trips to pottering about on the Helford River. Quite honestly, though, with so much beauty on your doorstep, why would you want to leave?
