9A King’s Parade Cambridge CB2 1SJ 01223 321 551
Exotic global dishes, pastas and risottos are the draw in this, Cambridge’s only vegetarian restaurant – a buzzy basement affair much of whose cuisine is gluten- and nut-free. If your tastes are wide ranging then the spectrum of the menu is as eclectic as the cafe's name suggests: Ethiopian lentil stews, Guadalope aubergine dishes and Cuban pies win plaudits from gourmets; good prices win favour with students. Even the most avid carnivore cannot help but be a little won over by the food on offer here. If you're out and about in cambridge and looking for something different that will give you a nice surprise, the Rainbow Cafe is well worth sticking you're nose in. A quick sniff of the offerings and you won't be able to help but go inside to eat!
The Rainbow Cafe serves amazing food which, although vegetarian, satisfies even the most ardent meat fans. The flavours and textures are imaginative and the specials change daily. Dishes which are gluten and nutfree are marked on the menu - and several dishes normally served with cous cous can be served with rice instead thus increasing the options for those who have to avoid gluten. For those avoiding the nightshade family those dishes which are nightshade free are now also marked on the menu.
The puddings are to die for and making a choice of pudding is never easy! The staff are friendly, extremely helpful and efficient.
We have been visiting the Rainbow Cafe for many years and have often recommended it to friends who are going to be in the area - they have never been disappointed.
