Clifton Suspension Bridge
Bridge House, Bristol BS8 4HA 0117 974 4664
We say
Brunel’s great suspension bridge, which dates to 1864, links Ashton Court and Clifton and is Bristol’s most serious contender for a proper tourist attraction. Walk across it if you like and admire the view, or have a drink at the Avon Gorge Hotel nearby to see it in its entirety. It’s a good addition to a walk around Clifton Village and perhaps Ashton Court too. It’s lit up with fairy lights at night and looks particularly special. Whatever you do, don’t bring hundreds of your friends and try to walk in time with each other: the bridge is regularly closed when there are events on at Ashton Court for fear that the marching hordes might make the bridge unsafe. You’ve been warned.
