The hub of Durham’s entertainment, the Gala Theatre is a sparkling combination of cinema, theatre and café-bar that puts on a medley of music concerts, comedy nights, theatre and dance recitals. Expect anything from the latest highbrow touring shows to amateur productions by university students – current hipster night out is the weekly 'Mr Drayton's Record Player', with self-professed 'daft bloke' playing classic vinyl albums in their entirety accompanied by drinks and banter. The cinema has two screens mostly showing a selection of the latest blockbuster movies and independent world cinema.
