A collection of six stylish self-catering cottages set on a working farm in West Dorset
Picture this: a long sweeping driveway leading to a grand farmhouse and a group of homely self-catering cottages. Sounds appealing doesn't it? Located on a working farm in the heart of rural West Dorset between Pilsdon Pen and Lewesdon Hill (the highest hills in the county), Laverstock Farm offers uninterrupted views out to picturesque countryside – it's a relaxing place to escape. There are six cottages to choose from (most are period properties), plus two Shepherd's Hut if you're looking for a glamping experience.  Just a 15 minute drive from the lively market town of Bridport and less than half an hour from World Heritage Jurassic Coast, it's a lovely spot to take a break, be it with a group of friends or family. Or why not treat your partner to a romantic weekend away?

Four-bed Lambrook Cottage is newly renovated, complete with log burner, open-plan kitchen, dining area and  Weber bbq, whilst one-bedroom Gardener's has been fitted to a high standard and benefits from a private terrace and use of the apple orchard – the perfect bolthole. After something a little different? Everdene or Herdwick are the spots for you. These Shepherd's Huts are tucked away and boast an outside kitchen under awning with a firepit. There may not be any electricity, but you won't be completely in the dark – four rechargeable lanterns are provided. The shared washroom is located 100m away and has a heated floor and fresh towels. Inside, the huts are cosy, decorated in calming Farrow and Ball shades. Whichever option suits best, there are far-reaching scenic views and roaming animals, including ducks, chickens, pigs, goats and sheep, depending on the season. Plus a large vegetable garden, a children's play area and games room with table tennis and darts.

Food lovers will be in their element, there's a thriving local scene – Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage in Axminster is just 10 miles away and there are some fabulous seaside eateries nearby such as The Seaside Boarding House, The Hive (both in Burton Bradstock) and The Club House in West Bexington. Not to mention an array of traditional pubs serving local ales and seasonal produce, such as The New Inn at Stoke Abbott and The Shaves Cross Inn. There are plenty of beaches close by – Seatown, Codgen and Eype to name just a few – plus the ancient town of Lyme Regis boasts four of its own. Whatever the weather or age group, there's an activity to suit all tastes, ranging from deep sea fishing at West Bay, wandering through Bridport's Farmer's Market (every Wednesday and Saturday), guided cycling and walking tours with Marshwood Trails, golf at Cheddington and even llama trekking in Beaminster. Don't fancy venturing far? There are plenty of strolls right on the doorstep of peaceful Laverstock.
