Elton Old Hall

With six double bedrooms, and lots of living space, plus an obliging host on hand to tend to your every need, Elton Old Hall is the perfect place for a family gathering or friends reunion. Up to 14 people can sleep in comfort in a beautiful country house situated just a few miles west of Derbyshire's county town of Matlock, in the southeastern part of the Peak District National Park. 

A renovated Grade-II-listed manor house dating from 1668, it's comfortably rather than ostentatiously furnished and is ideally set up for large groups to enjoy this beautiful part of the country. All of the rooms have king-size, double or twin beds; one has two single beds and a double so is perfect for family, and another has a four-poster for you to fight over. Three of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities and there's also a family bathroom with a bath and walk-in rainfall shower, plus a downstairs cloakroom. There is also plenty of room downstairs, with a large living room and kitchen diner, so not only can 14 people sleep here they can sit down in comfort as well! There's also a walled garden with a conservatory, while the house has a Bluetooth music system and wifi. 

You could of course make yourself very comfortable and barely leave the house, and we wouldn't blame you if you did. But that would be a pity, for there's lots to do in the surrounding area. Matlock is very well placed for seeing the best of the Peak District and there are well over a dozen country walks you can literally do from your doorstep. You're also a short drive from historic properties like Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall (Alton Towers is only 40 minutes away) and your host Juliet will also organise various activities on demand, from clay-pigeon shooting with a qualified instructor to indoor activities like cocktail-making or murder mystery dinners. She can also arrange for spa treatments and caterers to come in, so you can do as much – or as little – as you like. In short it's the perfect Peak District country retreat – and if it's not quite big enough the same owners have Portland House, situated in the popular and picturesque riverside town of Matlock Bath.
