A stylishly converted Art Deco waterworks that offers spacious accommodation in the heart of Cornwall.

Situated of the edge of the small, pretty  village of Ladock, roughly midway between Truro and St Austell, Filter House is a spacious 3-bedroomed single-storey property  – quiet, secluded and brilliantly located for some of the very best bits of Cornwall, coast and inland. It overlooks a small tree-fringed lake and the large garden abounds with wildlife, who frequently make incursions from the woodland beyond. Best of all, though, the Filter House is an Art Deco gem – originally a pumping and filtering station for the South Cornwall Water Board. Built in 1954 (supplying water to the Roseland Peninsula a little way south), it was rescued from dereliction just over a decade ago and converted to a beautiful residential property that has since become a holiday let.

Some of the original features remain, including the fabulous Crittall windows, but otherwise the property has been sensitively restored and remodelled in tune with  the Art Deco years with 1930s-style furnishings and light fittings that make you feel as if you have stepped into an Agatha Christie mystery. The three spacious bedrooms are furnished with original walnut wardrobes and dressers; there's a music room with an Eavstaff mini piano, a kitchen decked out in black and cream with a vintage feel, and even a 1930s style bathroom with an Art Deco reclaimed pink bathroom suite. More contemporary features include a washer/dryer, decent wifi, satellite TV, a DVD player, bluetooth music system and underfloor heating, making it a perfect retreat even in the winter months and on rainy days.

The village has a shop and post office and a decent pub, the Falmouth Arms, just three minutes' walk from the house, and you could be excused for just spending your days slobbing around the house and the garden, making the odd foray into the village for supplies or walking the footpaths that radiate out into the surrounding countryside. The conveniently central Cornwall location, however, means that you're just ten minutes from the county town of Truro; another ten minutes and you're in the beautiful Roseland Peninsula and St Mawes, from where you can take the ferry across to Falmouth.

You're also only half an hour or so from the Lost Gardens of Heligan or the Eden Project just outside St Austell. In short, Filter House is a perfect venue if you want a bit of everything Cornwall has to offer, and also want to add a touch of vintage glamour to your life.
