A spacious apartment and folksy cottage in Mevagissey plus an end-of-terrace cottage in the neighbouring historic harbour of Charlestown.

Situated right above the harbour in the popular southern Cornwall tourist hotspot of Mevagissey, Marine Point (in Nare Court) is a spacious apartment that makes a perfect base for exploring the town and its many nearby attractions, or just a chilled-out place to sit on your balcony and watch the fishing boats coming and going.

It's a great contrast to folksy Mevagissey, there's no doubt, a luxurious space decorated in contemporary style, with leather sofas, oak woodwork, limestone tiling and Cornish artwork, complemented by superfast wifi and smart TVs. There are three bedrooms in all – a double, a twin and a single – all with luxurious pocket sprung mattresses, TVs and iPod docking stations, and one – the double – with an en-suite shower-room. The other two share a family bathroom.

The same people also own Seafarers, a former coastguard's cottage on the other side of the harbour, which is kitted out to an equally high standard while losing none of its natural charm, with a well-equipped kitchen, sitting room, family bathroom and two bedrooms furnished with comfy beds and high-end bed linen; plus there are flatscreen smart TVs and superfast wifi to enjoy from leather recliners when the views pall or the clouds come over. In early 2019 the Seafarer’s garden was redesigned, making the best use of its south facing, elevated site, with far-reaching views across St Austell Bay.

Finally there is a third property, Tall Ships, in the neighbouring harbour town of Charlestown, a Georgian end-of-terrace cottage that sleeps six in three double bedrooms, one of which is en-suite. It's been completely re-furbished and enjoys all the amenities of the other properties – Smart TVs, fast broadband, a small garden and conservatory – not to mention a great position in what is one of Cornwall's most historic towns. It's also close to Charlestown's sheltered beach.

Mevagissey itself is one of Cornwall's most attractive fishing ports, with a maze of back streets and back alleys to explore, and is an excellent base for some of Cornwall's most iconic attractions – the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the world-renowned Eden Project are just a short drive away, and there are great nearby beaches at Portmellon, Gorran Haven, Hemick and Vault Beach. Mevagissey is one of south Cornwall's tourist honeypots and very busy during the day, so it's nice to be one of the relatively few left in the evening by actually staying in the town, which takes on a different aspect when everything has calmed down a bit and it's lovely to stroll down to one of the town's restaurants or out to the lighthouse.

Getting There

Get yourself to St Austell on the A390 until you reach the double roundabout next to McDonald's. Take the left turn onto the B3273 signed to Mevagissey. Continue on this road past Pentewan until you reach Mevagissey. For Marine Point, follow the signs for Portmellon, which will take you through the town (be prepared for very narrow streets) and up Polkirt Hill. As the road levels out at the top of the hill, Nare Court is the first on the left.  For Seafarers, turn left where Heligan is signposted to the right and follow this road straight on past the primary school until it becomes Cliff Road and then Cliff Street. Further along there is a signpost to turn left for Coastguard Cottages – take this and Seafarers is at the end of the road.
