The setting is wonderful – on a country estate belonging to the Budock Vean Hotel, complete with a nine-hole golf course on the banks of the River Helford – but we also love the range and quality of the self-catering accommodation here. Guests can choose between four traditional cottages occupying what were once the estate's outbuildings, and three contemporary purpose-built houses.

The traditional cottages – all with enclosed gardens – sleep between four and eight people, and feel far more like homes than holiday houses. They're child- and dog-friendly, and two interconnect – ideal for extended families. The new houses are super-chic, with Scandinavian-style open-plan living room-kitchens set on the first floor, making the most of the views and featuring wood burners and floor-to-ceiling windows. There are three bedrooms, one of which is a glamorous penthouse-style affair on the top floor; of the other two, one has an en-suite, while there's also a third bathroom downstairs.

Both the cottages and houses come with a welcome package of tea, coffee, milk, sugar, cereal, bread, butter and jam, and most importantly, guests have use of the hotel’s many facilities – the 9-hole parkland golf course, swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, sauna, snooker room and free wifi.

Facilities

Budock Vean is an idyllic place to really get away from it all. There's lots to do on site and in the immediate area if you want to be busy, but equally it's fine to just sit in the lounge, drink coffee and read a book or pamper yourself in the spa. We think we offer a perfect escape from day to day life. Come and discover us for yourself soon

Suitable For

The cottages have private enclosed gardens and are great for children and pets. Two of them connect so provide a great space for two families to holiday together.

If you like golf then staying in our newest property, Frenchman's Creek, is right by the course and has amazing views down the greens and fairway.

We also like walking through the hotel gardens to the private river frontage and joining one of Koru Kayaking's adventures on the river to explore smugglers creeks and places you just can't reach any other way.

Nearby

The Helford is a wonderfully rural part of Cornwall and very connected to the river. Even in the height of summer it still feels quiet and unrushed. The pace of life ebbs and flows with the tide. Just 6 miles and a 15-minute drive from Falmouth you can be in the hustle and bustle of this busy harbour town and all it has to offer, but then meander back through the country lanes to the tranquility of the Budock Vean for birdsong and the rustle of the breeze in the trees. It's a great place to relax, unwind and recharge your batteries.

Food & Drink

There's lots of lovely places within a 10-minute drive or a short walk. The picturesque Ferryboat Inn is just down the road, the cafe and tea rooms at Trebah and Glendurgan gardens are also 10 minutes along the road and accessible without having to purchase a garden ticket. A little further out is The Waymarker cafe towards the village of Constantine and the Cove Restaurant at Maenporth beach. Again, just 10 minutes away in the car.

But with a varied lunch menu and an evening dinner menu that changes daily to reflect our chef's use of the best local produce – you can always just stay here!

The Owner Says

Staying in one of our cottages or holiday homes gives you all the flexibility of self-catering but with resort hotel facilities right on your doorstep. You get full use of the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub as part of your stay, plus as many rounds of golf as you like. You can take meals at the hotel or just pop to the bar for cocktails or a pint and sit on the terrace and enjoy the view. It's the best of both worlds!

Getting There

Follow the A39 or A390 to Truro, and from there continue on the A39 to Falmouth. About 4 miles before you get to Falmouth, on the outskirts of Penryn, you will see brown tourist signs to Glendurgan and Trebah gardens; follow these through the village of Mawnan Smith, taking the right-hand fork at the Red Lion pub, and continue past Glendurgan and Trebah Gardens. After a further half a mile, around a sharp bend to the right, is the entrance to the hotel.
