UK Travel: A Coronavirus Update

Pitfield Pop-up

The Brooks Winchester SO23 8QY

Pitfield has an established following in the natty London districts, nestled amongst fellow edgy boutiques and coffee houses slap-bang in the middle of Hoxton, Shoreditch and Old Street. So coming across this rather swanky emporium, with a radiant green shop front, squatting surprisingly in the otherwise uninspiring Brooks Shopping Centre  is indeed a breath of fresh air, a daring shopping den of creative and eccentric collections, old and new, including vintage 1970’s furniture, bold lamps, playful chandeliers and candelabras, enamelware, kitschy golden pineapples and woodland motif tea-towels. Further delights come in the form of a gallery, hidden around the back, showcasing different artists, and currently boasting Peter Lloyd and his brilliant screen-prints of Mexican wrestlers. The Aqua-marine café houses rustic cupboards crammed full of local sundries such as Hill Farm apple juice and Miss Witt chocolates from the New Forest. The coffees are well-made rather than gigantic, and the menu offers delicious lunchtime treats such as a falafel, hummus, Hampshire chilli chutney, tahini and pickle wrap, or pastrami on rye, with pickles & swiss cheese, or a North African spiced chicken couscous, tomato and pomegranate salad. Pop in now, though, as it's a pop-up, and only sticking around till next February....then who knows?  Art, shopping and cake under one roof – what’s not to love?
