Blue Tomato Café
Ferry Point, Rock, Cornwall, PL27 6LD
Staring back at Padstow across the Camel Estuary, this waterside café was always going to have to plate up something special to steal custom from the foodie Mecca just a short boat ride away. Staples such as burgers, bolognaise and nachos might give the impression that this is just like any other decent seaside café, but more interesting offerings such as Goan-fried bream, Thai-style mussels and watermelon salad suggest otherwise. Whether you’re in for a hearty breakfast (honey granola, eggs benedict, mushroom gratin…) or a long, lazy lunch watching the boats go by, everything served is flavour-packed, fresh and well suited to the Med-style setting and ambience. Despite a laid-back café vibe don’t expect to pay average café prices (even a kid’s portion costs around £8) – but food, service and a setting of this calibre is worth forking out for. As is the fact that's extremely dog-friendly.
