It's hard to come up with a place to stay that's more rooted in Edinburgh. Centrally located, right between Waverley Station and the Royal Mile, it's housed in the ornate former home of The Scotsman newspaper.

No two rooms are the same but expect plush rooms with contemporary tweed furnishings and plenty of mod cons that are complemented by a pleasant spa that includes a stainless steel swimming pool, while the oak-panelled North Bridge Brasserie is a smart spot for a late-night drink or snack.
