Escape to rural bliss at this boutique country house in the heart of the Cotswolds

What could be better than escaping for the weekend to a luxurious and intimate retreat in the Cotswolds? Crestow House offers guests just that. Set on the edge of Stow-on-the-Wold, one of the highest (and most charming) towns in the area, the beautifully restored Victorian manor house overlooks the Dikler Valley and is an oasis of tranquility.

Understated luxury is what they're all about - a home away from home atmosphere, stylish comfortable surroundings and top-notch service. The property has a rich history and retains plenty of original features designed by world-renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The stylish furniture has been created by local craftsmen, whilst the lighting and accessories have been sourced from all around the world, offering the perfect mix of old and new. Each of the 7 boutique bedrooms are individually decorated, and come with all the mod cons to ensure a comfortable stay: custom-made beds with 400-count Egyptian linen, 55" Smart TV's and built in wall chargers. When you’re not relaxing there, make the most of the manicured grounds (the vistas out to the rolling countryside are spectacular) or take a dip in the 36-foot outdoor swimming pool (summer months only). After a game of croquet on the perfectly manicured lawn, chill with a book in the library room, or browse their ever-changing collection of art (the house doubles-up as a gallery). Breakfast is an experience to savour, served in the airy conservatory and prepared using locally sourced ingredients from the best of Cotswold suppliers. In the evenings, a light supper menu is available, prepared by the in-house Chef. Thirsty? Enjoy a coffee on the heated veranda, or grab something stronger from the residents-only bar, complete with a wine cabinet, and an enviable selection of whiskies. If you’ve got a family party to organise, Crestow could be the ideal option – they offer exclusive hire and can help tailor the bash, providing a bespoke service and catering.

The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers an abundance of things to do, ranging from the simple pleasure of exploring quintessentially English villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh and Burford (a haven for antique lovers) to visiting the likes of Blenheim Palace, Hidcote Manor or the whiskey-producing Cotswolds Distillery. But if you’d prefer, simply laze around at Crestow – utter bliss.

The Owner Says

Crestow House is a beautiful Victorian manor, which has been lovingly restored and turned into a private 7 bedroom boutique hotel. As a former family home, it still retains the homely atmosphere and many historical features, with an added touch of luxury and all the mod cons to suit the discerning modern day traveller. Come and immerse yourself into the rich Cotswold culture and sample Crestow living, it truly is one of a kind!

Our favourite room

Room 5, one of our smaller Classic rooms. What it may lack in size it more than makes up with bags of character and charm. Cosy, warm, comfortable and with views to die for - these are just some of the words our guests use to describe it. With its cute sloping ceiling and exposed original wooden beams it also one of our most private rooms, with no other bedrooms above or around you - the perfect bolthole for a weekend escape!

The local area

The unique combination of rural living and big-city chic, the Cotswolds really do cater for every taste. For walkers and cyclists. Naturalists and garden lovers. Horse riders and antique collectors. Golfers and amateur historians. From becoming one with nature to clearing out the cobwebs with retail therapy, you’ll find all life here, right on our doorstep.

Best local places to eat and drink

We are very lucky to have some excellent dining options here in Stow, and all within walking distance from Crestow House! For a traditional gastro pub experience in historical surroundings, head to the Porch House - England's oldest inn, then finish the night with cocktails at the Sheep bar on Sheep Street. The Old Stocks Inn hotel also has a superb 2 AA rosette restaurant - a unique mix of fine dining with informal surroundings and charming service - winning combo! And seafood lovers mustn't miss the Old Butcher's bistro - they get the freshest fish and seafood straight from Cornwall and cook it true French style - quickly, simply and beautifully.
