A great North Norfolk village pub with stylish rooms and fabulous locally sourced food

The Wiveton Bell is our sort of place. Situated just a mile from the North Norfolk coast at Blakeney, it enjoys a fabulous location year-round. Its lights are a beacon of welcome on a dark winter’s night, while in summer both the pub and garden are a magnet for walkers, bird watchers and everyone else enjoying this beautiful part of the country.

Now part of part of East Anglia's Chestnut group, perhaps the best thing about The Bell is that it's got six irresistible rooms to tumble into once you've exhausted the joys of its beamed bar and restaurant. There are four rooms at the back and two at the front, each with big sprung beds with high quality linen, stylish shower rooms with nice toiletries, flatscreen TVs with Freeview, DVD players (and a library of discs) and lots to read. As an added bonus, you also get your own private entrance and outdoor seating area. Rates include all sorts of room treats, like tea and coffee, mineral water and juice, and a continental breakfast hamper with pastries, cereals, yoghurt and fruit delivered to your room each morning (if you prefer Full English somewhere nearby, they'll knock £10 off the room rate!).

One of the nicest things about the Bell is that it remains a proper pub, somewhere locals and visitors stop by with their dogs for a pint – indeed a few tables in the front bar remain reserved for drinkers, however packed the pub gets. As such, it’s a thoroughly relaxing place to stay, encouraging an indolence you’ll find hard to shake off. They also don’t make you leave at the crack of dawn but encourage you to linger and enjoy the peace while you can – walking (there are lots of footpaths nearby), cycling, and of course eating – in the front bar, bright conservatory or outside in the extensive garden in summer. The food they serve is locally sourced, seasonal and delicious, and they have 2 AA rosettes to prove it.

Wonderful mini break, cannot wait to go back!

We had a wonderful time here. Firstly pre-dinner drinks on their lovely sunny terrace then as it was a Sunday we chose the superb roast beef and amazing Yorkshire puds with truffle cauliflower cheese, all three courses were delicious. Lovely staff and they were so busy as the place was packed. I treated my husband to a night away as it was his birthday, fantastic comfortable beds and that's so important, mini fridge, comfy armchairs, tv, dvd & movies to watch in bed late at night, which we did. Continental breakfast arrived in the morning, hot pastries, juice and yogurt. We really had a lovely time, we slept so well as it was so peaceful. We will definitely be coming back.

Perfect pub lunch

We are staying in Blakeney and were looking for somewhere nice for lunch where we could sit outside, exceeded all our expectations. There are two outside terraces, front and back, both really nicely done, high-quality tables, chairs, and real effort has gone into making the area feel nice. Service is exemplary, super friendly, super attentive, nothing is a problem. The food was equally good, I have a weakness for fish and chips on a pub menu and it pretty much always disappoints, but this was incredible, 'light' does not even begin to describe the batter and a really nice piece of haddock. I ordered it because when getting a beer the bartender was tapping a new barrel of wherry and said the first few pints would go for their batter!! All in all a perfect pub lunch experience. We only realised when looking at the information on the menu that it is part of a group that includes the Rupert Brooke in Cambridge, scene of another perfect pub lunch experience, so they are doing something seriously right.

Pleasant and wowed visit

Visited the Wiveton Bell with the family - we were passing by and noticed a beautiful quaint-looking pub but to our surprise this was a true hidden gem. Upon arrival through the door we were treated with smiles and a big hello and welcome from staff, the building Itself is very old, appealing and inside draws you in with a warming feeling. We ordered beef brisket and a pea salad with sourdough bread and we were wowed over by the presentation and the taste. We were excited to get into our mains. My husband ordered the burger and I had the sea bass and words will not do the food justice. Excellent throughout! we needed time to let our food go down before we tackled the desert. We both opted for the strawberry cheesecake and again it didn’t disappoint. The white snow is just magic! From start to finish the staff were attentive at making sure every dish was okay for us. I must say for our first visit on the off chance of driving past, the Wiveton Bell outdid any other place we visited while on holiday in Norfolk. The lovely female staff allowed us to take a menu with the map of the Chesnut group on the back and we plan on trying out the globe on our next Norfolk visit! Thank you to all who made our visit the best and well done and thank you to the chefs who cooked our food it was superb.

Dream place. If only there were more like it!

Fantastic and varied food and drinks menu for kids and adults. Delicious food, very personable and knowledgable staff. Great outside space too if weather permits. We shall certainly visit again and highly recommend.
