Rose & Crown

UK England East Anglia Norfolk

Old Church Road Snettisham Norfolk PE31 7LX
The best kind of gastropub with rooms – and in a fantastic North Norfolk location.

Run by the people behind the excellent Bank House in King's Lynn (which is also well worth a visit), this ancient pub has been around since the fourteenth century and in some ways is still a traditional village boozer. But it's also well-known as a place to stay, and we reckon it is everything a pub with rooms should be – a delightfully modernised old inn with sixteen pretty and very comfortable en-suite guest rooms, all with good quality beds and linen, bright decor, free wifi, TV, fluffy towels and Molton Brown toiletries. Overall the feel is one of relaxed, simple comfort: it's dog-friendly (pooches pay a modest extra charge), family-friendly – they charge just £20 a night for kids under 12 to share their parents room – and the restaurant is first-rate, with proper attention given to seasonal ingredients and fast and efficient service. The other nice thing about the Rose & Crown is that it's so handy for some of the most alluring stretches of the North Norfolk Coast – the nearby Snettisham RSPB reserve, the Queen's summer retreat at Sandringham and the pretty villages nearby – Docking, Bircham, Ingoldisthorpe – all of which are lovely links in a perfect country walk or cycle ride.
