For a London hotel, One Aldwych just about has it all. Set in a landmark building, the grand former home of the Morning Post enjoys a perfect position in London's West End, on the edge of Covent Garden and Theatreland. It's also awash with facilities, with its own pool and spa, cinema screening room, and a terrific restaurant and destination hotel bar. Yet, despite all this and a set of cream-of-the-crop guest rooms and suites, it somehow manages to retain a boutique feel – not just in its rooms and public spaces, but in its staff too, who are assured, knowledgeable and experienced in going the extra mile for their guests.
The bedrooms were all recently refurbished and are as comfortable as it gets, with no stone left unturned when it comes to amenities. Divided between Superior, Deluxe, and Suites, all come with Smart TVs, Dyson hairdryers, tea- and coffee-making facilities and complimentary water, soft drinks and snacks – all drinks in the minbar (including beer and wine) are also complimentary. In the en-suite bathrooms, you'll find cosy robes and thoroughly British Mitchell & Peach toiletries. All boast a walk-in shower, with many Deluxe rooms also equipped with a bath, and are superbly well sound-proofed from the street outside – in fact, the peace and tranquillity inside is really quite a striking contrast to the buzzy West End beyond the hotel doors.
At street level, the Lobby Bar is a destination in itself – perfect for that pre-dinner cocktail. It’s overlooked from the mezzanine by the hotel's Indigo restaurant, which serves a delicious and inventive menu built around British ingredients. Seasonally-themed tasting menus are the big draw here, as is Indigo’s reputation as one of London's top gluten-free restaurants. Downstairs at One Aldwych is the mouthwatering world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with their enchanting afternoon tea inspired by Roald Dahl’s iconic story. The biggest secret is the subterranean Health Club where you can indulge in a highly-personalised spa treatment, visit the well-equipped gym for a high-intensity workout or take a dip in 18-metre/59-foot lap swimming pool – a rarity in central London, as is the underwater music that soothes you as you swim in its chlorine-free waters. And if that wasn’t enough, One Aldwych even boasts a private 30-seat cinema where classic movies and new releases are screened – be sure to keep an eye out for the next 'film and fizz' experience to enjoy some bubbles with your popcorn, after your three-course meal at Indigo.
