  • From £155 a night
  • 34 Guest Rooms & Suites
  • Contemporary Country Pub
A beautiful converted village pub that's the size of a small hotel – and is handily placed for all the delights of the Suffolk coast and countryside.

Perfectly placed on Westleton's diminutive village green, just opposite the parish church, this converted village pub is a charming and very comfortable place to stay. Part of the Chestnut collection of pubs, inns, and restaurants in East Anglia, it does all the things a modern inn should do: it serves good food, including an excellent breakfast; it has no less than 34 extremely comfortable guest rooms upstairs and in various outbuildings; and it's as cosy and as hospitable as can be.

Above all, though, its peaceful village location is an extremely good base for the many and varied delights of this part of the Suffolk Coast, which is teeming with things to do and places to see – from nearby Walberswick to the local resort gems of Aldeburgh and Southwold, which are a short drive away. It's also a good place to come if you want to leave your car keys in your pocket, with walks galore in the surrounding countryside and along the coast path, including to the nearby nature reserve at RSPB Minsmere – one of the region's most popular attractions – and to the Crown's sister pub, the nearby Ship at Dunwich.

The bedrooms have all been recently refurbished and are either in the main building or dotted about various converted barns outside. They’re all beautifully finished and vary from 'cosy' and 'standard' Doubles and standard Kings with queen-size and king-size beds respectively, to larger double rooms with king-size beds, which have separate showers and roll top baths and (in the case of 'Excellent Kings') a separate sitting area,  They also have several family rooms on two floors, with a double bed plus bunkbeds for kids. All rooms have TVs, wifi, tea- and coffee-making facilities and well-fitted bathrooms with toiletries. Indeed the whole place is very comfortable yet retains a cosy charm that reminds you it's a converted pub – just what Wills and Kate were looking for when the stayed here a few years ago when attending a nearby wedding. The restaurant, too, is excellent, and dogs are welcome in most rooms.

Going back very soon

We had a lovely stay!! We brought our dog with us and couldn’t have been made more welcome. They had thought of everything right down to dog biscuits and bedding. The food was great with a varied menu catering for vegetarians and vegans. Ate in the hotel for three breakfasts and dinners and it was all delicious. The staff are lovely and very helpful. One night they were short staffed but they worked so hard and everything got done without losing the smiles and friendliness. We are going to be back very soon. It is a great area to stay in with so much to do.

Atmospheric venue in excellent location

Location within walking distance to Dunwich Heath/Minsmere. Rooms good size, nice decor and spotless. Modern bathrooms with shower and bath, lovely thick fluffy towels and decent toilet paper. Staff professional, friendly and genuinely welcoming. Good choice of food on menu, quality products and nicely presented. Atmospheric building, highly recommended.

Perfect perfect perfect

10/10 cannot fault this place. Came for dinner with a friend and couldn't stop talking about how good it was the whole way home. Didn't know places like this existed in such a tiny village. What a find. Food and service all exceptional. Big bifold doors in the main restaurant on a warm evening, we felt like we were on holiday, and ended up drinking in the gorgeous garden out the back, lovely surprise that you wouldn't know was there from the street. We will be back.

Westleton Crown Top Marks

What an absolute lovely little gem this is. Super people and so dog-friendly. Great accommodation, food and staff. Also lots of car park space - this is so important. We stayed for 3 nights in The Blue Tit room and it was perfect. Beautifully clean, lovely linen and even a dog bed, towel and treats for our lab. The bed was also very comfy - this makes such a difference. They do a fabulous breakfast with lots of choice and evening meal - thank you Lilian for looking after us - so no need to drive at night if you don’t want to. The pub itself has a great atmosphere. You can take your dog into all rooms which is really good and they even give you sausages for your dog so you don’t have to share! The manager David Sanchez is actually visible and hands on which is pretty rare in a lot of places and this is good to see. He was knowledgable and very helpful with any queries we had. The surrounding areas to Westleton in all directions are lovely to visit. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again and having made ourselves members of this group of pubs we intend to explore others. Top marks to Westleton Crown though - we loved it, it will take some beating.
