A sassy, nautical-style hotel right on the beach, the South Sands has brought a much-needed bit of boutique class to the Salcombe seaside experience. Rooms are simply but stylishly done, decked out in sand and ocean colours to match the natural beach environment of the gorgeous Salcombe estuary that you can see from many of the 22 rooms. A couple have private balconies, most have French-style balconies, some have free standing baths, and all have art and photography on the walls by locals such as Graham Fish and Lorna Yabsley. For families or groups of friends there are also five spacious beach suites, with balconies, two bedrooms each, well-equipped self-contained kitchens and lots of living space.
It's a hop, skip and a jump from the South West coastal path here, and the lovely little South Sands beach is a joy to chill out on – and also has a facility where you can hire paddle boards, surf boards and kayaks.
