A cosy and comfortable well-located chain hotel in a historic building in the heart of town.

There aren't many better places to stay if you want to be in the heart of Windsor than the Mercure, whose full name is the 'Mercure Windsor Castle Hotel' for a reason – it's right opposite the royal residence and guildhall and footsteps from just about everything else in town. Formerly the town's main coaching inn and still located in its original elegant balconied old premises, it's now part of a chain, but despite that its 100 or so guest rooms vary quite a bit in style, from traditional rooms with four-posters to slick doubles furnished in contemporary style; wifi is free throughout; there's parking and there are plenty of inter-connecting rooms for families. It's not the grandest hotel in Windsor, but it's comfortable and welcoming, and the location can't be beaten. It also has a decent in-house restaurant - Eighteen – serving reliable and occasionally inventive Modern British food.
