A lovely, all-season glamping site within walking distance of the quintessential Cotswolds’ village of Bourton-on-the-Water

With a tremendous position on a half-acre sliver of land surrounded by fields close to Bourton-on-the-Water, The Wildings is a desirable glamping site in its own right, and a perfect base for seeing The Cotswolds. This little glamping paradise village was set up by owner Kim when she was pregnant – and it shows. It’s a lovely spot for everyone but perfect for young families, with each pod sleeping up to a family of five (plus a dog) and the yurts housing up to four. They're warm and weatherproof, and can be tailored to your needs. Bringing a baby? Add the cot bundle. Camping as a couple? How about booking a hamper? Breakfast, BBQ and chilli con carne varieties are available, including vegan options. They'll even do a pre-arrival food shop for you, if you prefer. To prepare your ingredients, there's an on-site communal cookhouse with a well-equipped kitchen, along with comfy seating and books to browse. And the full on-site farm shop provides tasty produce and has an old-fashioned coffee machine. Super family-friendly, Kim offers parents the opportunity to pre-load 'Wildings' cards for kids, so they have their own spending money on site, where they can buy the likes of milkshakes and old-school sweets, with children able to weigh out their goodies. There's also a cosy 12-person BBQ hut and Ooni mobile pizza ovens that guests can hire. Oh, and 71 solar panels have been added, so the site should run completely on its own solar electricity.

As for the accommodation, there are six camping pods, each with insulation, heating, lights, and electricity, two hand-built yurts lined with English sheep wool to keep you warm, a pair of handmade tipis, a Luna tent, and 27 traffic-free camping pitches, plus wheelbarrows to help carry your things. The 4 metre by 4 metre pods come with a built-in standard-sized double bed and a sheet as standard (plus camp beds, depending on your numbers). You can ramp up the luxury by adding a range of extras, customising your glamping experience with linen, towels, and campfire cooking kits and tableware.

Meanwhile, the yurts offer off-grid boutique camping, illuminated by solar-powered fairy lights and lanterns. They come furnished with a double bed and a sheet plus furniture, and camp beds are available for extra guests. What else? There's a small and efficient wood-burning stove and a box of logs, a tableware bundle, cooking essentials (chopping board, knife, scissors and utensils, pans and kettle) and washing up utensils. Outside, pull up a pew on the picnic bench or warm yourself by the fire pit complete with a swing arm grill. In terms of extras, linen, log baskets and deck chairs are available, plus more.

A sign in reception recommends “You should sit in nature for 20 minutes a day... unless you are busy, then you should sit for an hour", and we can't deny that The Wildings is a terrific place to do just that, while enjoying a campfire and watching the bats, as the kids play on the climbing frame. However, lovely as it is, The Wildings is also a great base for the Cotswolds and its numerous attractions, with picturesque, riverside Bourton-on-the-Water just a mile away and home to sights like Birdworld and The Cotswold Motoring Museum, as well as numerous tearooms, inns and cafes. There’s enough to keep you occupied for a week around here, and the site is also well connected with footpaths as well as roads leading out to the rolling hills and other pristine villages that the region is so famous for.

Facilities

We think our extras make us super special! There are a few of them but it means that we appeal to hardened, experienced campers through to those who have never camped before or, like myself, you're a parent who loves the experience of camping and making our kids so happy but the thought of packing up the entire house and the washing/drying of a tent etc etc fills you with utter dread (you are not alone!) then this is the place for you!

Grass Camping Pitches - super simple bring everything you need

Pods - Available all year round, these are heated and have electricity, they come with a double bed and mattress.  Thats it.  Tailor it to your hearts desire with our extras or keep it simple and bring everything you need.  They are big enough to sleep up to 5 people

Tipis, Luna Tent and Yurts - these are off grid and come with a double bed and mattress (bring your own bedding or grab our extras), basic cooking essentials; pans, kettle, utensils, tableware, mugs, cutlery, a box of logs, an outdoor BBQ fire pit, picnic table.  Lighting is battery operated.  They are all large enough for a family of 5 people

Facilities - we have hot showers and flushing loos on site with space for families including a changing table.

Cookhouse - our cookhouse is brill! Its small - but it has a fully fitted kitchen with basic pans, crockery, tableware etc.  It has a cooker, microwave, kettle, 2 fridges with some freezer space, toaster and a small seating area along with books, board games and toys for children.  This is a communal space for everyone so we ask that everyone is conscientious of other guests

The Owner Says

We want to give all our guests an amazing experience while staying with us, therefore we have designed our site to give you the best value for money, while also offering lots of options, so you can make it the perfect break for you.

We want to take any hassle out of camping for you and so have created a 'design your own holiday' campsite.

We have grass camping pitches, camping pods, tipis, and yurts.

Utterly simple and tailor made for you

We also offer a relaxing Cookhouse for all our guests to share; there is a full kitchen, two fridges, sofas, games, books, and all sorts of other things to make your stay comfortable.

We have an amazing fully stocked Farm Shop on site with everything you need for your stay, along with a fabulous little coffee shop and a miniature old fashioned traditional sweet shop!

For children, we have 2 fantastic little play areas to keep them busy while you make supper or relax with a book!

When you arrive you'll be met by one of us, we'll show you around and you'll get a solar fairy light lantern (not for camping pitches).  Our communal area is lit at night but our paths aren't - we're not that big though so you can't get too lost!!  Feel free to ask us lots of questions we are local and very happy to help with ideas and suggestions for days out.

Once you're settled come for a shop to grab everything you need in our farm shop, enjoy a coffee from our amazing mechanical coffee machine, it takes a bit longer to make coffee than a big commercial machine but enjoy watching the lever slowly pour the water through the coffee, take a deep breath and relax. You're on holiday!  Let the kids loose in our miniature old fashioned sweet shop where they can weigh out some old school favourites or let them grab a milkshake for themselves with milk from our local diary whilst you shop

Getting There

From the A429, turn south east signposted Clapton Sherborne. Continue along Lanketts lane until you reach us on the right hand side, if you get to a junction you've gone too far!!

From the A40, turn north signposted Sherborne Clapton, stay on this road for a few miles, its wiggly but don’t turn anywhere. Drive carefully as there are often roe deer about. Keep driving until you reach a junction at the top of the hill, take a left and we are the next left.
