Just outside the market town of Ashburton on the southern edge of Dartmoor, Highdart provides as good an introduction to the attractions and possibilities of Dartmoor as you could wish for. Rebecca and Luke's place is rooted in the region, with a cottage and a yurt for rent and any amount of suggestions for things to do in the area; plus they run a fabulous own electric bike tour business, Dartmoor Electric Bikes, if you want to see Dartmoor on two wheels. Their cottage and yurt are certainly situated in a perfect location for exploring Dartmoor on foot, so even if you arrive by car the nice thing is you don't have to get back into it if you don't want to until the time comes to leave. The cottage is a decent size and has been recently renovated so it's very comfortable; it has three large bedrooms and two bathrooms so can easily sleep six; the kitchen is modern and well-appointed and there's a wood-burning stove and a lovely garden which provides access to the river and up onto the moor. They can also get you a babysitter if you want go out in the evening – Ashburton has a number of places to eat, and there is a pub within walking distance, the Tavistock Inn, in the village of Poundsgate. The yurt is situated nearby and is strictly speaking for two, but it can take three at a pinch, or two parents and two small children; like the cottage it has a wood burning stove and is lovely and cosy; they provide the first batch of logs but you will need to get your own after this and also bring bedding and towels. All in all you couldn't imagine a better spot for exploring the delights of Dartmoor.
