The Hideaway @ Baxby Manor

UK England North East England North Yorkshire

Baxby Manor Husthwaite North Yorkshire YO61 4PW

An off-grid countryside glampsite in a beautiful farmland setting.

Get right off-grid at this countryside glampsite in a beautiful farmland setting, where peace and quiet and deep, dark skies await. You can pitch a tent or campervan on the rustic six-acre site at 700-year-old Baxby Manor – everyone gets a campfire pit, and there are hot showers, sinks and loos in a modern, spotless, heated facilities block. Three chalet-style wooden eco-pods and some cute hobbit houses take care of the glamping end of the market, but it's all very low-key and eco-friendly – so, no electricity and barbecue or camp-stove cooking only, but candles and lanterns are provided, and the shower-water is heated by a biomass boiler. Peace and quiet is what you're promised and it's what you'll get too – it's definitely not for big groups, party people or late-night revellers, and there's a strict keep-it-down policy between 11pm and 7am.

It's the extras that really make this place – like the alpacas that sometimes come to visit, the farm eggs that you can buy, or the fact that the local butcher calls every Saturday morning to sell bangers, bacon and barbecue packs. Every weekend and daily in school holidays, there's breakfast, barista coffee and home-bakes from a vintage caravan-cafe. It would also be an amazing wedding venue, if you're that kind of couple – think marquees among the wildflowers or a tipi in the vintage apple orchard. You're a short walk from Husthwaite village (a couple of miles off the A19), where there's a pub and a shop; and nearby attractions include Coxwold (2.5 miles away), Thirsk (9 miles) and Sutton Bank (12 miles), so the location's great for the west side of the North York Moors National Park.

The Owner Says

Summed up in one, well maybe two, sentences…

The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village shop, pub and bus stop.

Another great stay at this wonderful site

This was our fourth stay at Baxby Manor, and just as good as our first. It is an exceptional site, one of the best in England. The low density, beautiful surroundings and family atmosphere are hard to beat. It is easily one of the quietest and least boisterous we've ever stayed at. The campfires are a pleasure and the croissants a delight. The genuinely friendly service from Barney makes a huge difference. Our group was aged 7 to 85 and all enjoyed it just as much. I have already booked for next May.
