Book the Swallow Yurt, great for a family of three with a gorgeous red wool lining around the walls and a pale linen colour on the roof, there is also a wood burning stove. On the site you can use the 'safari styled' kitchen, which is great for cooking under cover; there are views out across the meadow, so you can still keep an eye on what's happening. We have fruit and vegetable troughs dotted around the barn so that you can pick or dig your own if you want to - there is no charge for this and we very much hope you'll enjoy the delights of home grown produce. You also have free use of the communal pizza oven, using herbs you may find in the vegetable troughs!

In the barn there's an electric kettle and toaster as well as armchairs and sofas, table football, full-sized table tennis, books, maps, fridge-freezers, charging points for phones or laptops as well as WiFi.  We aim to make your glamping experience the best and we hope you'll find everything you need here!

Adjacent to the barn houses is the 'Old Cowshed', here you will find flushing toilets, showers, basins, mirrors (as well as your own hot water bottle for the cooler ends of the season) and washing up facilities with plenty of hot water from the solar panels on the stable roof (supported by an environmentally friendly wood-pellet boiler and two huge hot water cylinders). And tucked away outside beneath the rowan tree you’ll find the double woodland shower with proper hot water in a wooded area well screened by willow fencing.

About Ivy Grange Farm Glamping

Suitable For

Glampers, families, groups – yes.

Southwold and Walberswick, just ten miles down quiet country lanes, are both great places for days out ,with good swimming, wonderful fresh fish bought straight off the boats, beachside pubs, sandcastles and, of course, crabbing!  The nearby market towns of Bungay and Beccles are lovely places from which to explore the Broads. You can hire a Canadian canoe from nearby Geldeston and take off for the day along quiet stretches of river, or from Beccles you can hire a day boat; or on foot just set off along the network of footpaths alongside Waveney River.  If you're a fan of Roger Deakin's Waterlog, you can explore some of his favourite local wild swimming spots (we're also happy to share our favourites with guests) or, more mysteriously, discover some of the places that W G Sebald explores in his Rings of Saturn novel, all very close to us here at Ivy Grange Farm. Why not join us for one of our regular full moon walks, setting off at dusk for a real adventure! Just check our website or Facebook page for details.

Food & Drink

Step out of the five-bar gate and you are on the National Cycle Route 1 and the world is your oyster! There's masses to do in the area, whether you like canoeing, biking or hiking or prefer to explore some of the lovely places to eat and drink – Suffolk is fast becoming a beacon for great local foods and drink. We're a stone's throw from St Peter's Brewery, a lovely 15th-century abbey with a great pub and restaurant set in the middle of idyllic rolling countryside, and there's even a cycling Brewery Tour you can follow! Try the new Boarding House restaurant in nearby Halesworth, which is fast becoming our favourite.

We (a group of three families) have now visited Ivy Grange Yurts twice and are already planning our next return visit. The entire set-up makes for the perfect away break for parents, children and couples. The yurts are spotless (on arrival!) and luxurious, with all the necessary facilities for adults to 'fool' the kids (and themselves) that they are having an authentic camping experience - outdoor shower (with lovely hot water), wood fires and barbecues (all ready to be lit), a little woods for the kids to 'lose' themselves in (although they are actually visible to adults pretty much all the time), fully equipped outdoor and indoor kitchens, pick-your-own patches of fruit and veg, jars of marshmallows and fleets of torches (all at the ready), and a lovely big barn with ping pong and football tables, lots of kiddies games and big comfy armchairs (to take cover when it rains). On both occasions we stayed there, there was a couple in the 'fourth' yurt, and on both occasions they seemed to be loving it as much as the families did. The place is big enough and the yurts are spaced out enough that you can have as much or as little to do with others staying there as you like so I think it would be a great place for a romantic break too. Honestly, I can't fault the place!

Getting There

By car, it's 2 hours from London, less from Cambridge and Norwich, and easy to reach from the A12 and the M11. Head for the A144 Bungay/Halesworth Road. From Bungay, turn left at Ilketshall St Lawrence school (Hog Road) and then first right (Butts Road), and it's the first farmhouse, half a mile on the left. From Halesworth towards Bungay take the first right at the Spexhall crossroads along Nollers Lane. Take the first left (Butts Road), follow the road for 1.3 miles, ignoring the righthand turn to Westhall village, and it's the next farmhouse on the right.

By train (the London/Lowestoft line, hourly service), you can be collected from Brampton or Halesworth stations (Halesworth is best for food shopping on the way up) and there's an 'own steam' discount for those arriving by train, bike or foot. Pick up the connecting train at Ipswich if coming from other destinations.

There are bikes to borrow at the site, as well as undercover storage for your own bikes.

Hourly trains run to Brampton and Halesworth on the London to Lowestoft line via Ipswich, and Nick and Kim are happy to collect from either station – indeed the site offers an "own steam" discount for those arriving by train, bike or foot.
