The Owner Says
This is basic loft space above the barn! It is a simple, rustic loft with 2 rooms and a tiny loo. It has a kitchen and dining room with wood-burning stove, dormer window snug and one double bedroom. The loo has no shower which is unusual and why I have priced it so. There are 4 showers downstairs via the main door and balcony only a 5 second walk, these are shared with the campers and glampers. Step out onto the south facing balcony giving you fantastic views of the sea. It is Ideal for couples on an adventures! There is also a small double in the living / kitchen area for extra guests.
We have a honesty Shop and potted herb garden organic wholefoods, fresh eggs, bread, in season organic produce from the farm. Please help yourself to the herbs and salad leaves that we have planted for you, there is a watering can so if the plants look thirsty please feel free to help us water them!

NearbyMake a pilgrimage to the tiny chapel, built by Italian POWs held here during the Second World War. They also built the causeways that link South Ronaldsay with the ‘mainland’. The interior of the chapel is just as striking as anything you’d find in Rome. An even shorter walk away, you'll find a pristine sandy beach, which is also the starting point of a fabulous 10-mile circular hike. Alternatively hop in the car and drive 20 minutes to Kirkwall, where you can wander around the labyrinth of stone-paved streets, or visit the gallery and co-operative craft and gift shop, in St Margaret’s Hope (01856 831587).
Food & DrinkWheems’ own organic fruit, veg and eggs are on sale in their shop. Alternatively, Creel (01856 831311) in St Margaret’s Hope is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s best restaurants, serving set three-course menus (with just 2 choices for each course) for £40. Whilst there, stop off at the Murray Arms (01856 831205) for one of their delicious local beers.
Wheems Organic Farm is located at Wheems, Eastside, South Ronaldsay, Orkney KW17 2TJ
The easiest way to reach Wheems Farm is to take the ferry from Gills Bay on mainland Scotland to St Margaret's Hope, South Ronaldsay, which is just a couple of miles from the farm. There are also summer passenger ferries from John O'Groats to Berwick on South Ronaldsay, and from Aberdeen to Kirkwall, a half-hour drive away. It takes about the same amount of time to drive from Kirkwall airport.
There’s a reasonably frequent bus service in the summer months from Kirkwall to St Margaret’s Hope (plus there’s the ferry) but then it’s a 2-mile walk from the village.
