Glamping and camping right next door to Stonehenge

You know you have a winning campsite, when you're lucky enough to be situated next to one of England's most iconic landmarks. And there's no doubt that the Stonehenge monument is a stellar reason to come to this neck of the woods. But the good news is that the other reason is the site itself – a camping hub for travellers, hippies, families and couples, all looking for a peaceful place to rest their heads, and not only when seeing the stones. With cute camping pods, a scattering of well-kept grass pitches, plus a brand new gents and ladies shower block, the many plaudits Stonehenge has earned are evidently justified: deep breath now... David Bellamy Gold Award, Green Tourism Bronze Award, Country Discovery, Grade 2 Listed British Tourist Award, AA 3* Award, Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence 2014.  They even won 'Loos of the Year' in 2015. However, it's not all about awards, and Stonehenge more than lives up to its name as one of the most evocative and atmospheric campsites going, with campfires and barbecues allowed in designated pits. It's a sociable place too: the skies are dark and the nights often lit with a dome of stars in this part of Wiltshire. Not a bad place, then, for swapping stories with other campers whilst sipping a hot chocolate at the communal fire pit till the sun rises. Be warned, though: the site can get extremely busy – and is more expensive – during the Summer Solstice Festival (usually 17–23 June). You can read more about the site at Cool Camping.
