Railway Retreats

UK England South East England East Sussex

Railway Retreats Station Road Northiam East Sussex TN31 6QT

A unique place to stay in the heart of the beautiful East Sussex countryside.
Overlooking the the platform at Northiam – one of the stops on the popular Kent & East Sussex Railway – Railway Retreats gives you the chance to sleep in your very own converted railway carriage, right up close to the track of a working steam railway. It's a unique place to stay, and is definitely more of a first-class than a third-class experience, with a beautifully converted MK1 railway carriage that sleeps up to 6 people in a great deal of comfort. There is a fully functional kitchen, an open-plan lounge and dining area and a glass balcony for an elevated view of the steam railway and the surrounding countryside. Of two double bedrooms, one has an en-suite bathroom, plus there's a bunk bedroom for kids, and a family bathroom. It's a great place to stay, and perfect for families with young children, not only because, hey, you're staying on a train, but also because it provides an excellent base to explore his part of Kent and East Sussex. The most obvious way to do this is perhaps on the railway itself, whose steam trains run to Bodiam – and its magnificent castle in one direction – and in the other to Tenterden in Kent, home of the Chapel Down vineyard. The magnificent gardens at Great Dixter are also within walking distance from Northiam Station. Plus you're also just a short drive away from the Go Ape centre at Bedgebury, a little way north, and to the south the coast at Rye and Camber Sands.
