UK Travel: A Coronavirus Update

UK Travel: A Covid-19 Update

At Cool Places we are committed to working with and supporting hundreds of independent hospitality businesses around the UK. The coronavirus has presented unprecedented challenges to them, to us and to all of our customers.

We receive requests every day for information about coronavirus (COVID-19) and what it could mean for your holiday plans in 2020. The situation in the UK is constantly being reviewed – the latest government guidance can be found at – but for the moment the advice remains to avoid all non-essential travel and not to spend the night anywhere other than at home.

If you have booked a stay somewhere to stay before July 4, 2020,  then you will need to rearrange or cancel your trip. Many of our hotels, B&Bs and other UK accommodation businesses are in any case still closed, or  are only taking bookings for holidays for July onwards. Please contact the property direct to discuss amending your booking, and if possible please try to change your dates rather than cancel: most businesses will be flexible at this time and will be happy to amend your dates to later in the year if possible. If you do have to cancel and want a refund, please be as flexible as possible. If you are in any doubt about anything, please get in touch: our staff are working from home but we are still open for your calls and queries by email or by phone.

Of course we can all continue to dream of where we might want to go when this is all over, and it's looking – for this year at least – like the simplest thing will be to travel somewhere within the UK. Most of our self-catering cottages and glamping sites are taking bookings for July and beyond, and many are offering greater flexibility over deposits and payments in case your travel plans have to change – indeed many Cool Places properties are offering a Coronavirus Booking Guarantee, with low deposits, balance payments near the time of your holiday and flexible rebooking if required, so you can book with total confidence.

We wish all Cool Places readers all the best - please stay in touch on social media and let us know where you're dreaming of going, where you plan to go or where you have been.
