A peaceful, boutique B&B in glorious Snowdonia National Park.

The folks behind the glamping and camping and cottages at Graig Wen also run a lovely boutique B&B, housed in what was once a Victorian slate-cutting mill. There are five (dog-friendly) rooms, decorated in a bright, contemporary style and equipped with flatscreen TVs, free wifi, posh toiletries, lovely Welsh wool blankets and bath robes. They welcome you with chocolates and a drink, and you can soak up the fabulous views over the Mawddach estuary during your stay (rooms Bran or Miri Mawr have the best views). Breakfasts are yummy, too, with everything sourced from local farms or friends and family – and a breakfast hamper delivered to you if you're feeling lazy. Meanwhile, everyone is welcome to enjoy the spacious communal Caban area with stunning views, honesty bar, books, maps and games.

There's tons to do in the local area, from hiring a bike and cycling to the local pub to hitting the nearby beaches, just five minutes away. Tackle Cader Idris, the spectacular mountain right at the back of Graig Wen, or explore a stack of  challenging mountain-bike trails at nearby Coed-y-Brenin, around 5 miles north of Dolgellau. From your room, you can walk directly through the surrounding 45 acres of wild woodland and meadows to the edge of the Mawddach Estuary and Mawddach Trail. Plus, Harlech Castle, Portmeirion and the Ffestinniog steam railway are within easy reach. It's also a fabulous place for star-gazing, with some seriously dark skies in this part of the National Park.

Food & Drink

You have a wide choice for eating out within 5 - 10 minutes drive every day of the week. There are excellent local restaurants, pubs, bistros and cafes including four restaurants featured in the Michelin Good Food Guide. We are very happy to help you with advice and advance booking, which is strongly recommended for both tables and taxis at weekends and busy times. Whether you fancy Welsh lamb, fish and chips by the beach, or good pub grub with a screen to watch the rugby, we'll help you find it here!

You can walk, or even better, bike to a couple of local pubs. It's an hour and 15 minutes walk along the beautiful Mawddach Estuary Trail, or 25 minutes by bike on cycle path all the way to the recently refurbished George III at Penmaenpool. Or you can take the Mawddach Trail over one of the most iconic and scenic bridges in the country to the pubs and cafes of Barmouth. You can borrow a bike from us.

Some of our favourite local restuarants include: Bwyty Mawddach , The Salt Marsh KitchenIndiana Cuisine, Tafarn y Gader Tapas Bar, Dylanwad and Bistro Bermo. And it's always hard to resist having second helpings of Meg's amazing cakes at TH Roberts cafe in Dolgellau!

Pricing

B&B rooms £90–£130 a night. They take children over the age of 10 but all the rooms are either doubles or twins, so the self-catering cottages are best for families.
