A very comfortable, eco-friendly North Cornwall boutique B&B that's focused on health and wellbeing.

This conjunction of a 19th-century stone country house and white 16th-century farmhouse is about as tranquil a North Cornwall bolthole as you could imagine; we reckon there are few better places for exploring both fancy-pants Padstow and the rural beauties of northern Cornwall. Situated just outside Wadebridge, with four serene and spacious rooms looking out on the rolling countryside beyond, proprietors Nick and Jane certainly landed on their feet when they decided to buy Costislost. And we should be delighted that they decided to share their home and its special location with the rest of us. Both have a track record in the hospitality business, and it shows in every detail of what is a beautiful boutique B&B with a wellbeing and alternative health slant.

The rooms – Partridge, Pheasant, Snipe, Mallard and Woodcock – are impeccably furnished, with a tastefully eclectic mixture of antiques and more contemporary items. Wooden floors are spread with kilims, you sleep in large handmade wrought-iron four-poster beds with 100% cotton linens, and there are stylish easy chairs from which to admire the glorious views. The bathrooms are large (3 have baths and 2 have separate showers) and equipped with soft towels and 'Faith in Nature' natural toiletries, and each room has tea-and coffee-making facilities (fresh coffee rather than instant, and a cafetiere), a fridge with mineral water and fresh milk. Breakfast is a sumptuous affair, with a help-yourself buffet and hot dishes on demand, all based on an array of fantastic local produce, including locally made marmalade and jam and Jane's own granola. The house itself is decorated with work by local artists, all of which is for sale (though Nick and Jane take no commission) and serves as a wonderful interpretation of the local area.

Costislost is also a great place to base yourself if you are remotely interested in health and wellbeing: Jane is a qualified chef and nutritionist who runs healthy cookery courses and offers consultations; plus they also offer various complementary therapies (massages, reiki, etc), which you can enjoy in the comfort of your own room, along with yoga sessions in their yoga studio and they also run regular yoga retreats. Costislost is also perfect for just exploring the beautiful local area: walkers and cyclists can enjoy the 18-mile-long Camel Trail which runs nearby on its journey from Wenfordbridge to Padstow, or there's the mountain biking and walking trails at Lanhydrock and Cardinham Woods. Beach lovers, meanwhile, can hit the surf-lashed north coast (about 20 minutes drive). All in all we couldn't think of a better – or healthier! – place to enjoy this beautiful part of Cornwall.

Our favourite room

Although all of our rooms are superb, the views across the garden and fields from Pheasant or Partridge rooms are unsurpassed.

The local area

Described by a previous guest as 'an oasis of tranquility' pretty much says it all. But when you combine that with the ease of access to the rest of Cornwall, then it is perfection.....

Best local places to eat and drink

there are so many great places to eat around us that it is almost impossible to choose one or two but, for us, James Nathan (masterchef winner) at St Enodoc, the St Kew Inn, Nathan Outlaw at Port Isaac, Paul Ainsworth at Padstow, Prawn on the Lawn, and of course Rick Stein. Just way too many and that's only some of them. The issue isn't which is best, it's which do you choose of the best!

Why stay with us?

Quite simply the best reason for staying with us is that you will go home relaxed, refreshed, rejuvenated! You will know that you have escaped London or wherever you need to for that time to get yourself back.
