There’s a real sense of place at this lovely boutique guesthouse, with local materials much to the fore in gorgeous, warm-toned rooms featuring hand-crafted oak furniture, green-slate bathrooms and carpets woven from the wool of the native lakeland sheep, the Herdwick. City slickers get fair warning not to wear their high heels on the bespoke oak floors – hiking gear is more at home here. Beds are big and springy and the breakfast divine, from organic artisan breads and freshly made smoothies to specials like cured meat platters, pancakes or veggie rissoles.
PriceDoubles £115–£120, junior suite £130.
