Glorious rural tranquillity in twin holiday cottages in the heart of mid-Wales.

Fforest Fields Cottages

Hundred House Llandrindod Wells Powys LD1 5RU 01982 570 736

We say

You couldn't get closer to the heart of rural Wales than by staying in one of the holiday cottages on this delightful family farm and campsite, situated just a few miles outside Llandrindod Wells in the midst of the green rolling hills of Powys. They have a glamping site too, with a selection of very comfy lakeside yurts, if you want the camping experience without the effort; and some people come back year after year –  to walk, fish, canoe or swim, or just commune with nature and do a bit of tree-hugging.

There are two cottages. Ffynnonau sleeps 5 comfortably and could take another at a pinch; it has a double bedroom, a twin and a small single room, and is beautifully furnished, with a lovely garden out the front. Y Ffos is smaller, sleeping 3 or maybe 4, in its double bedrooms and large single, and gives beautiful views over the valley from its more elevated position.

There are two lakes for fishing, swimming and paddling, with a small beach and a jetty with kayaks if you want to get out on the water. And that's before you've ventured into the countryside beyond, which is glorious – you can go mountain-biking at nearby Aberwesyn, head into Llandrindod Wells, which was one of the country's most elegant spa towns in its Victorian heyday, or catch the renowned World Bog-Snorkelling Championships, which takes place every year at a peat bog just outside Lanwrytd Wells – a truly Welsh institution if ever there was one.
