A place in which to immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Wales – in the most elegant and contemporary of surroundings.
St Davids Pembrokeshire SA62 6QT 01437 725 555
Just a short walk from the centre of the gorgeous little city of St Davids, Twr y Felin Hotel is ideally situated for exploring one of the loveliest counties in Wales. The scenery in this part of the world can be breathtaking, and the hotel is only ten minutes away from the 186-mile long-Pembrokeshire Coast Path, so is ideally placed for all kinds of hiking trips. The Oriel y Parc Park Visitor Centre and Gallery is actually opposite the hotel and hosts the changing exhibitions of the National Museum Wales collections.
But that's not all. A former windmill set in its own grounds, and dating back to 1806, Twr y Felin itself has been superbly recently converted to an award-winning luxury hotel, with 21 en-suite bedrooms including two fabulous suites. There’s no doubt that the best room in house is the Windmill Tower suite, spread over three stories with a spacious bedroom and lounge above and a spiral staircase which takes you to the original observatory located on the highest floor of the hotel... with spectacular 360-degree views of the whole peninsula, including the nearby coastline at Caerfai Bay. But the other rooms are equally well-appointed, and all have robes, slippers, aromatherapy toiletries, Sky TV and iPod docking stations, digital radios, Nespresso coffee makers and kettles as well as a mini fridge. The public spaces too are seriously chic, with sumptuous grey and black furnishings, subdued lighting and a wealth of contemporary art, most of it commissioned specially for the hotel and inspired by the St Davids Peninsula. Indeed Twr y Felin revels in its location, and above all in its 'Welshness'. The menu of its restaurant – ‘Blas’ (literally, ‘Taste’ in Welsh) – reflects the seasonal produce of Welsh farms and has garnered two AA rosettes. As you might expect, local specialities such as Welsh lamb, crab, laverbread (a seaweed delicacy) and great Welsh cheeses feature prominently. The Cornel Bar and Oriel Lounge are also noteworthy as cool places to hang out in the surroundings of some very impressive artworks. All in all, Twr y Felin is a rare thing: a place where you can immerse yourself in Wales, and do so in the most elegant and contemporary of surroundings.
Built in 1806 as a working windmill, today Twr y Felin is Wales’ first contemporary art hotel, located in Britain’s smallest city, St Davids. Offering a ‘Croeso Cynnes’ – ‘warm Welsh welcome’, stay on bed and breakfast basis or choose to dine at two Rosette Blas restaurant. We are open daily for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and drinks.
