It looks fairly ordinary from the outside, and it’s a bit of a schlep to get here, but there’s an understatedly cool vibe about this smart restaurant-cum-bar, which was recently converted from a down-at-heel Victorian pub. The building's heritage is evident thanks to the exposed brickwork, but otherwise, the muddy green painted walls are hung with gilded frame mirrors and oversized artwork, placed deliberately – and agreeably – in your face. Slightly separated from one end of the lounge, the dining area – all low hanging chandeliers and crisply laid tables – serves modern British pub fare prepared to order, and the regular Sunday roast is always a big hit. There's live music on the tiny central stage on Friday and Saturday evenings, a quiz night on Mondays, and open mic sessions on Wednesdays. What more could anyone want?
