Luxurious retreat on the banks of Loch Tay in Highland Perthshire

Highland Perthshire is an epic land of sweeping lochs and vaulting mountains. Right at its heart is the Ardeonaig Hotel, an old inn that once housed needy travellers seeking shelter and which has since been reinvented as the most welcoming luxury hotel on the banks of mighty Loch Tay. The main hotel offers 17 rooms, but the real highlight is the brace of cottage suites and quintet of shielings in the grounds, which look like a cross between African rondavel huts and traditional Scottish crannogs. These supremely cosy hideaways come complete with stand-alone baths, high-end fabrics and Molton Brown toiletries. The restaurant, with an exciting Scottish chef at the helm, is also excellent. All in all the ideal base for exploring Loch Tay and exploring the surrounding countryside on a variety of enticing walks.

Seriously relaxed!!!!

This is a seriously relaxed hotel with an outstanding personal welcome and some of the best food in Scotland. We're lucky enough to live in the area, but it still isn't easy to get to, being half way along a single track road on the south bank of Loch Tay. However, it is definitely worth the effort. From tucked-away residents' lounges and libraries, to the well-stocked bar, every detail has been thought of. The staff encouraged us to be on first name terms and seemed to take a genuine interest in us. The rooms were simple and well-presented in the main hotel, and this fits in nicely with the quiet, secluded atmosphere. There are also some cool cabins along the lawn that leads to the lochside. Then there is the food. We decided against the tasting menu, but stll had plenty of little treats between courses. Wine recommendations worked well and as a die-hard carnivore I have to say the cauliflower starter nearly converted me to a veggie. Dinner was so good we were worried about fitting in breakfast. A quick morning hike to the farm above the hotel helped, but we needn't have worried as the breakfast was healthy and just the right size. We had a great stay and can't wait to go back!

Another world

A real sense of going to another world, with some miles of stunning single track road to get to it, Ardeonaig is well worth the effort. Very fine food, and the old Inn is lovely.
