Can't decide between going to a bar or a restaurant? The Magnum offers a simple solution as it has both in one relaxed building, each with the same subdued lighting and relaxed vibe right in the city centre by the new tram line. Settle into a table in the restaurant and you can order off both menus. A warming treat from the bar menu is a whole baked Camembert to share with crusty bread, while more creative starters from head chef Paul Don include pan seared scallops with a chestnut veloute, crispy prosciutto, apple batons and maple syrup. On the main menu in the restaurant stars include the likes of smoked cod loin with cockles, samphire, asparagus and watercress purée or herb marinated supreme of guinea fowl with an Arran mustard mash, wilted spring cabbage and a roast shallot jus. A bit of a local favourite that is usually busy so book ahead. Good value too.
