Speyside is home to the greatest concentration of whisky distilleries in Scotland, and this picture postcard corner of the Highlands has its own whisky trail, which takes in some of the most famous names in whisky, such as Glenfiddich and Balvenie. Most distilleries offer guided tours and some have visitor centres too. Spirit of the Spey allow you to paddle in an open canoe between the distilleries and enjoy special tastings by a roaring fire in the evening. They are pretty flexible and can arrange everything from a day-trip through to week-long tours. Canoe tuition is also available.
